• Nose - warm buttery peat, fragrant vanilla bean, car leather, iodine

• Taste - sweet, slightly spicy, rolling smoke, charred vanilla

• Finish - sweet, woody, smoky, meaty

Overall

I was drinking with my buddy the other night when he brought out the travel exclusive Laphroaig QA Cask. This whisky has been matured in ex-bourbon casks, and finished in uncharred American oak casks. The QA in the name comes from Quercus Alba, latin for American oak.

The nose is oh so familiar, that wonderful Laphroaig fragrance with plenty of buttery peat, vanilla, and iodine. The taste is rather flat and uncomplex, hitting all the main flavor profiles you would expect from Laphroaig and the barrels they used. Unfortunately, the low ABV is glaringly obvious on the palate. Overall, this is a tasty whisky, but it just makes me think of a very tame 10 year. This is an easy to drink Islay whisky for those who are just starting out.
